About Soumitra

Soumitra Thakur was initiated into the world of Indian classical music at the age of 4. He began training in Sitar under his uncle, Shri Prashanta Thakur, from the Bishnupur Gharana of West Bengal.
He received further tutelage from Ustad Rashid Khan, focusing on the gayaki ang of the Sitar. He is currently undergoing advanced training under celebrated sitar maestro Pt. Kushal Das of the Maihar Gharana.
After graduating in Economics from Hindu College, he completed his Masters in Music from the University of Delhi. A gold medalist in both MA and MPhil, he is currently a research scholar in music from the
University of Delhi.


Soumitra's baaj carries influences from both the Maihar and the Imdadkhani Etawah Gharana.
